Dr Digi's image for July 2004 (caption at bottom)
dorchester abbey

Dorchester Abbey, Oxfordshire. Knight of c.1280. Pevsner calls it "one of the finest and
best preserved pieces of C13 funerary sculpture in the country". Tummers comments on the liveliness of the way
he sword is drawn - the 'outstanding effigy' of the group of sword-drawing, cross-legged knights (in his Early Secular Effigies in England).
Incidentally, the crossing of the legs has nothing to do with the person having been a Crusader.
