Madingley, Cambridge, the monument to (probably) Elizabeth Stukeley, who died in 1636. She is flanked by cherubs (what would they have been holding?), and at top centre is a crown. Underneath the crown are the words 'Crown of Innocence'. The cherubs have been damaged, and they now have new faces, slightly too large. The central crown has also been damaged (it used to project much further out). William Dowsing, the iconoclast, visited here on 6 March 1644, and although he did not mention doing damage to this monument in his diary, it is quite possible that the damage was done by him - certainly the notion that the child was in a state of innocence was not one which would have appealed to Dowsing or his accompanying soldiers.
