Passenham Church, Northamptonshire
At first sight, a typical misericord, showing a 'green man'. But look again at the style of the decoration.
This is not medieval at all, but work of 1626, carried out by the new Lord of the Manor, Sir Robert Banastre. He rebuilt the chancel
in a way which indicated his 'high-church' sympathies,
including stalls with misericords, and paintings of prophets, evangelists and the burial of Christ.
