burford detail
Burford, Oxfordshire

Detail from the tomb to Lord Chief Justice Tanfield, d.1625. Probably by Gerard Christmas (or possibly William Wright).
This monument is very difficult to see and photograph due to its cramped position in the north-east chapel.
In one inscription on the side Lady Tanfield bemoans the fact that her husband was not buried in a private church.
