The Ecclesiological Society

Conference 2008
Saturday, 4 October, Central London

WELSH CHURCHES

The conference is on Saturday 4 October 2008 from 10.00 to 17.00.  Please note that the location has changed from that previously announced and the conference will now be at the St Alban's Centre,  Baldwins Gardens, London, EC1N 7AB. Link to map.

Everyone is welcome

This year we will be looking at churches in Wales. What are they like? What – if anything – makes them distinctively Welsh?

We cannot hope to cover such a large topic in a single day, but we believe that between them our speakers will give new insights into a group of buildings too little known, and far too often overlooked.

Speakers: n T.J. Hughes An introduction to Welsh churches: their place in Welsh landscape, history and culture n David Petts The archaeology of the medieval church in Wales n John Morgan-Guy Medieval Welsh churches and their imagery: Wales and the wider world n Richard Wheeler The medieval church screenwork of Wales n  John Harvey An ABC of situating chapels: Architectural, Biblical, and Cultural perspectives n Julian Orbach on Victorian churches in Wales

Why not join us - these are friendly events, with excellent speakers. And there will be a second-hand bookstall and a small exhibition of photographs of Welsh churches in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches.

Tickets (including refreshments and lunch) for members are £43.50 (£48 for non-members, £35 for full-time students).

The location provides disabled access: please contact us for further details.

To book, either download our application form and post it to us (pdf version with revised location  here,) or email us at ecclconference@btinternet.com
